American Bandstand

American Bandstand

.

Our girls had a color TV to watch since the day they arrived.
We watched black and white TV in high school, thinking it jived.
American Bandstand was one of those shows we all did watch,
With a black and white picture and that fine stereo music touch.

When in high school, my sister and I watched American Bandstand
Every week day afternoon at 4 PM after school with music so grand,
Dick Clark was host every single day on our black and white TV.
He always had popular guest singers live there for us to all see.

The amazing Dick Clark.

There was Leslie Gore singing her big hit song “It’s My Party.”
And the Angels singing “My Boyfriends Back” so loud and hearty.
Then Little Richard ripped the scene with “Reddy Teddy” so right.
And The Five Satins slowed things down with “In The Still Of The Night.

Those songs from back then just sounded so very good to our ears,
Making us feel so good sometimes and at others bringing the tears.
There will never be another teenager music revolution again so grand.
It made us feel like we were center of the universe right in this land.

Millions of teenagers watched the show every day it was on.

JerrylDine loved to watch all the teenage couples on the show,
She knew them all by name watching as they danced fast and slow.
She was always up dancing trying to copy the steps they were doing.
In fact, I think she learned to dance quite well that show a viewing.

My sister, JerrylDine, loved American Bandstand as did all red blooded American teenagers.

I used to watch a good looking girl there dancing so very close,
And fantasize I was on the show with her as the partner she chose.
They all seemed so cool dancing there on American Bandstand,
To that wonderful array of music from all over our great land.

Love those clothes from that era.

There was Buddy Holly, Bob Dylan, and Fats Domino there too.
The Four Tops, The Marcel’s, and the Platters, all sang so blue,
Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and the Beetles were just a few,
Of the stars that sang there on the American Bandstand too.

See anyone you remember on the dance floor?

I think nearly every teenager around back in that special era,
Remembers that teenager show that all of America did share.
Those times were so special and will likely never be seen again.
So let’s cherish those memories and pass them on to our friends.
