Aces On The Lake

Aces On The Lake

Over the years we shared a lot of adventures with our clogging friends. The Rhythm Aces had so much fun at times it’s difficult to describe. All of the adventures included the whole families. It’s hard to believe that all the kids have grown up and have children of their own now. Now we are all thankful for grandchildren. This story describes one of our adventures.

Aces On The Lake

In the summer of 1996, some of the Rhythm Aces got together and rented a large pontoon boat for a day of fun on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees. Bill and Pam, Ellis and Brenda, Gary and Paula, and a whole bunch of youngsters. We brought several coolers of beer and pop and food for a cook out including a charcoal cooker. We elected Ellis captain since he was an experienced sea faring man and he knew all the good places on the lake.

We found a good spot on the lake and everyone tried their hand at inner tubing and then water skiing. Paula said she liked riding on the inner tube but she felt like she had had an enema after the first ten minutes. I relinquished my turn after hearing that.

That’s Brian getting ready to ride the inner tube. I hope he doesn’t get an enema like Paula did.

I believe that’s Paula trying to come up on the skis. Maybe she picked up too much water weight on the inner tube ride.

.
We found a cove next to a rock cliff and anchored there to have dinner. I asked Ellis what about the charcoal cooker and he said he was going to fire it up on the pontoon and cook dinner on the water. I was somewhat surprised, but he said he has done it many times. So Captain Ellis fired it up and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs right there in the back of the boat. Brenda and Pam fixed all the kids plate, and we had a lovely hot lunch out on the lake. It was great. The kids went swimming in the cove and climbed up the rock cliff several times and jumped about 30 feet into the water.

Some of the kids climbed up on the rock cliff making the long jump into the lake. That may be Casey in the air.

.
We did some lake cruising in the afternoon while sipping on some cool ones. Of course Ellis wasn’t drinking since he was driving. Gary did his Weekend at Bernie’s routine doing the impression of the dead Bernie with his hat and sunglasses. I’ll have to admit he did look just like old Bernie. Paula got some rays in her swim suit working on her tan.

That’s Gary doing his Bernie impression and April and Casey behind him ignoring him.

On the way back to turn the pontoon boat in I had received much too much sun and I looked like a fresh cooked lobster. We had had one heck of a day and enjoyed the day with our good friends.

Our friends we enjoyed over the years remain with us as we grow older because of all the fun and fellowship we shared together. Although we don’t see much of them anymore, they remain with us in the memories we share. Pam and Brenda managed to elude the camera for the whole trip so they will appear on the featured photo at the top of the blog.

Thanks for reading Aces On The Lake,
